Photographing your artwork
photographing your art using a smart phone
To obtain the best possible images for submission follow these basic guidelines:
Lighting
Use bright indirect light. Natural light is best as it should not tint artwork. Avoid direct light which may cause deep shadows and dappling effects.
Placement
It may be easiest to hang the work on a wall but you can place it on the floor or an easel. Hold the camera (phone) parallel to the work’s surface, filling the screen as much as possible. Do not hold the phone at an angle to the work as this will distort the image.
Editing
Use the built-in phone editor or an external photo editor to correct color, crop, and make other minor adjustments. The photo should faithfully represent the original work as much as possible.
image and filename specifications
JPEG image files should use the sRGB color profile for best results.
Crop out all parts of the photo that are not the actual work; do not show mat, frame, etc, only the work itself.
Images should be at least 1920 pixels on the longest edge and no larger than 30mb.
The maximum upload file size limit is 30mb. Large image files may take longer to process and upload.
Please title the work using your last name, first initial and the title of the work. e.g. Hamby_D_BeautifulDay.jpg
